BEST PRACTICE IN SUSTAINABLE TOURING - THE JULIE'S BICYCLE GREEN RIDER
In June 2010 Julie's Bicycle published Moving Arts: Managing the Carbon Impacts of our Touring. Alongside a comprehensive analysis of the carbon emissions involved in moving work, the report set out a number of recommendations. These were tailored for different parties in the touring supply chain in recognition of the fact that they have different levers of influence to encourage change within the industry.
One of the key recommendations was the development of a green rider for use by touring companies. The rider is intended to offer guidelines for all touring companies, and to stimulate dialogue between visiting managers and venues about best practice in reducing environmental impacts.
Julie's Bicycle has developed this rider in consultation with a range of subsidised and commercial touring organisations and will continue to update the rider on an annual basis based on user feedback and developments in practice.
2011/12 is a pilot year and we are now seeking companies interested in piloting the rider for tours taking place through to January 2012. If you would like to discuss this further, please contact:
Sian Alexander sian@juliesbicycle.com or Helen Heathfield helen@juliesbicycle.com
If you are downloading the rider to pilot, please let us know the production you'll be piloting it with and do send through feedback and your experiences using it, so that we can continue to refine and improve it based on your needs.
