The Impression fixture was designed to minimise on components yet focus on Solid State technology. GLP stripped the fixture of as much as possible, which ended up reducing its size, weight and added features. After doing this, they ended up with a fixture which weighs only 7.5kgs (compared with a typical fixure of this output weighting up to 27kg), and delivers a 400w reduction in power demand.
This 400w reduction is achieved by using LED fittings, as the unit only uses 350w at full power, whereas in comparison with a standard 575w fixture would be 750w. There are even greater energy savings to be made as well – the Impression will only use the power necessary dependent on which LEDs are used, so if only 1/3 of the LEDs are lit, then the fixture only draws 1/3 of the power (and reduces the amount of heat generated).
Lifespan of these fixtures is approximately 50,000 hours for the LEDs, which is a huge saving from the 750-1000 hours of life that is available with a standard 575w fixture – and as many lighting designers and crew will know, the 575w bulbs need specialist disposal as they contain mercury, something you won’t have to worry about with LEDs!
