British Council and Julie's Bicycle launch Long Horizons
On Monday February 15, Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, will today launch Long Horizons, a series of essays debating the impact of climate change on the work of policy makers, scientists and artists at an event hosted by the British Council and Julie’s Bicycle.
The collection will be launched on Monday February 15th. Antony Gormley's essay appears in The Guardian's Review on Saturday February 13th.

AGF: Öya Festival tops the green list at the European Festivals Awards
A Greener Festival update! The Öya Festival in Norway has won the prestigious overall Green n Clean Award at the European Festival Awards which took place last night (January 13th) at Eurosonic Noorderslag convention in Gronigen in the Netherlands. The Award is one of a handful awarded by an expert judging panel, with most other awards up for audience members to vote for. The Awards were organised by our friends at www.virtualfestivals.com and the European festival organisers association, Yourope, along with Eurosonic Noorderslag.

AGI given Industry Green certification for CD packaging
AGI, a leading supplier of packaging and creative services to the music and home entertainment industries, has successfully received Industry Green certification for an audio Digipak® and a Softpak produced at AGI Van de Steeg in the Netherlands. The packs were assessed by Julie’s Bicycle, a non-profit company helping the music industry cut its greenhouse gas emissions and verified by the The Environmental Change Institute, Oxford University. Both products are confirmed compliant with the current criteria for Industry Green Category 1 for CD packaging.

Digital music and carbon impacts
Our latest paper "The Carbon Impacts of Recorded Music Products in a Time of Transition" is a position piece in response to the small number of research documents, including our own, that examine energy use and carbon reduction associated with recorded music, with an emphasis on digital. It specifically recommends some further research into downloading and streaming. While this piece is focused on music it does have relevance for a much wider creative community.

The Arts and Climate Change
JB has been commissioned by the British Council to pull together a series of essays on climate change and the arts. Gathering new writing from a range of contributors including a scientist, sculptor, writer and musician, the piece asks what role the artist should take in engaging with climate change, their audiences, and policy-makers. It will be launched in February 2010.

Julie’s Bicycle, an organization which seeks to reduce carbon emissions within the music industry, has gained the approval of every major record company, plus the Beggars Group, to establish a benchmark initial 10% reduction in C02 emissions from the manufacture of CD packaging in 2009.
