Studios

Why me and why green?

The surest way to a truly sustainable music industry is through participation, and every facet of the industry has a major role to play.

Professional studios have traditionally been the sole domain for professional recording, but this landscape is changing. Advances in technology and digitalisation of delivery have provided the platform for a DIY recording culture, emerging from bedrooms, basements and spare room studios in countless homes. Disused industrial and commercial buildings on the wrong side of the tracks are also being converted into studios – but our message is that no matter where you’re recording music, there are still a wide range of simple, low cost actions (and large-scale ones too) that you can take to reduce your environmental impact, improve your brand ethics and join a rapidly growing community of incredibly commited artists and industry organisations.

As with music venues and offices, built studios are able to benefit from the wealth of information and opportunities for sustainable design, retrofitting and systems to reduce environmental impacts. In these pages we’ll summarise some actions for you, and signpost resources that will give you more detailed guidance.
