Top Indie Artists Join Campaign to Walk to Work

A host of top indie stars are helping launch a competition to find the perfect music compilation for walking to work. Lukas Wooller (Maxïmo Park), Jack Johnson, Roddy Woomble (Idlewild), Adem, Vashti Bunyan, Max Tundra, Emmy the Great and John Douglas (The Trashcan Sinatras) are just some of the artists who have nominated their favourite tracks to walk to in aid of the new Walking Works campaign run by Living Streets, the national charity that campaigns for better streets and more walking. Their nominations are listed below. Walking Works are asking the public to pledge to use their legs more and nominate their favourite tracks to create a playlist of the ‘Ultimate Walking Compilation’, as an alternative to the dozens of ‘driving’ compilation albums available. Everyone who signs up on the website will be entered into a competition to win a top of the range Nike+ iPod (worth £150) or one of five Creative Zen MP3 players, preloaded with the Ultimate Walking Compilation playlist (worth £50).  People can enter the competition by pledging to walk more and offering their perfect walking track suggestion, at www.walkingworks.org.uk/make-the-pledge  by 31st December 2008.  Walking Works encourages commuters to walk for all or part of their journey to work, a great way to incorporate regular exercise into their routine, reducing stress, elevating their mood, burning calories (handy in the run up to Christmas) and leaving no carbon footprint.
