New 80% target “tough but do-able” - but what about the cream cakes?

Ed Miliband, heading the newly formed Department of Energy and Climate Change, has accepted all of the recommendations from the Committee on Climate Change, including an increase in the 2050 CO2 reduction target from 60 to 80%.

The Committee also recommended that these targets be expanded to include all the major greenhouse gases and that they should take account of aviation and shipping emissions. However because of practical problems allocating international transport emissions to the UK the committee is not recommending these be included in the five-yearly Carbon Budgets which will underpin the reduction process.

Lib Dem spokesman for climate change and energy said this was”like telling everyone you’re going on a calorie-controlled diet but not counting cream cakes.”
