Mumbai Live Earth targets India

The next Live Earth show, scheduled for the 7th December at the 40,000 capacity Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai, will target India’s rapidly expanding economy and growing middle classes. The event, which will be broadcast accross the Star TV network, will aim to raise environmental awareness to a potential audience of 500 million people. Event organiser Kevin Wall has said that the event may lose money but is vital to increase education about being environmentally friendly. Western rockers Bon Jovi, Roger Waters and Black Eyed Peas’ Will.I.Am and numerous Bollywood stars including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are on the bill. Money raised by the concert will be donated to Climate Project India, a charity which runs education programmes and renewable energy projects in the country, and TERI’s Light A Billion Lives campaign, which provides solar lighting to homes without electricity. Probably not on the bill are Oasis, who have just announced that they are considering buying a private jet having just had the use of a rented jet for their UK and European tours. Lead guitarist and elder Gallagher brother Noel has said that the band could ‘probably afford’ a jet and that they would christen the plane ’credit crunch’.  Oh well, thats OK then.
