Hello Mr Sunshine?
Its official - summer was a total washout and August was the dullest on record since 1929 with only 463.9 hours of sunshine up to the 31st August . And its rained (you must have noticed!) lots and lots in August - and then even more at the start of Septemeber. 327.3mm of rain fell between the 1st June and the 31st August and 81.6mm by september 15th, a total almost equal to the full monthly average. The Met Office has blamed the fifth wettest summer on record on changes to the Jet Sream, the fast moving high atmosphere winds, which were further South than usual, preventing hot weather from southern Europe moving up to the UK.
