Green Theatre - Action Plan Launched

An action plan spelling out how the London theatre industry can achieve a 60% reduction in its emissions by 2025 was launched last week at the PLASA annual conference, at Earl’s Court. The plan is a joint initiative between Mayor Boris Johnson and leading theatre groups, including the Society of London Theatre, National Theatre, the Theatres Trust and Ambassador Theatre Group. The report finds that London theatre pumps 50,000 tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere every year - equivalent to 10% of the city’s total bus emissions or the annual energy consumption of 9,000 homes. Over 100 London venues and theatre suppliers were involved in this project - contributing to the mapping of the carbon impacts, and also providing case studies of best practice in the sector. The document offers a set of practical actions for the sector, including a carbon calculator for productions.

Access the report at the Mayor of London or Theatres Trust.
