Paul Heaton’s Pedals and Beer Pumps Tour 2010 – A Case Study
Whilst us busy bods here at Julie’s Bicycle are working hard to complete our next report, we are always happy to bring you news which is related to what we’ve been researching – and this one came straight to us out of the blue! Whilst musician travel brings to many a stereotypical image of lines of posh tour buses and trucks rolling up at the crack of dawn to play to their faithful masses, Paul Heaton (famously known for his involvement in Housemartins and in the Beautiful South), will be touring the pubs and small villages of England – by bicycle.
In a daunting 720 mile round journey, starting from the Rovers Return in Manchester, Paul will visit a series of small pubs and villages to perform. The tour starts in Manchester, travelling to the set of Eastenders in London, returning to Yorkshire for the set of Emmerdale, and lastly back to Manchester. He won’t be completely alone however, as his band members and tour support will be following him as a team on the way back from London.
This is not only a great opportunity to support the traditional English village pub, but as Conrad Murray (SJM Concerts, Promoter) highlights, a green chance “to promote the greenest transport of all”. And here at Julie’s Bicycle, we’re intrigued and impressed by this huge effort to promote cycling as a method of transportation for touring.
So take the opportunity to support – keep an eye on his Myspace page here: http://www.myspace.com/paulheatonmusic
Perhaps we’ll even see you at one of those small pubs!
