Julie’s Bicycle Green Paper 1 - Electricity Supply Recommendations
The Report ‘First Step: UK Music Industry Greenhouse Gas Emissions 2007’ (Environmental Change Institute, Oxford University, 2007) commissioned by Julie’s Bicycle contains a number of recommendations which will significantly reduce the industry’s carbon emissions. It is important that reliance on fossil fuels is reduced as much and as quickly as possible. Therefore a key recommendation in the report is :
Switching to a green - lower carbon - electricity tariff or, better still, a 100% renewables energy supplier.
While this recommendation is clear the market for tariffed and renewable energy is anything but. This paper attempts to clarify what a green tariff is and what percentage of ‘green’ electricity companies can reasonably expect to receive from a supplier.
