Designers: Do the Right Thing

Added on 10th Nov 2011 by Sholeh Johnston

On Wednesday9th November, JB's Helen Heathfield joined a panel of experts from the design industry, chaired by Nat Hunter, director of Airside, to discuss whether the design industry is "doing the right thing" and how the industry can play a role in changing the way products are designed, communications are designed, and how design thinking can contribute towards positive behaviour change and new ways of working that are more environmentally sound.

Helen talks specifically about JB's analysis of the D&AD Awards Manual 2011, which has managed to reduce carbon emissions considerably for the 2011 Annual through changes to the production process and materials used to make the publication.

Skip to 6 minutes for the start of the talk, and Helen's appearance comes in at 17 minutes, though we recommend the whole talk for a stimulating discussion on the design industry and sustainability.
