Bulbs or beans? Greener festivals in the spotlight
Low energy lightbulbs, reusable cups and on-site bore plumbing are amongst the initatives festivals are exploring this year to reduce their environmental impacts and discussed by the BBC's business reporter Simon Atkinson today [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/10145690.stm]. As JB Director Alison Tickell and Claire O'Neill from AGreenerfestival note, Audience travel continues to prove challenging - partly because people are attached to bringing in substantial supplies like beer and baked beans that could not easily accompany them by bike or bus!
Festival goers are also coming up with their own suggestions for action - I judged the second year of Glastonbury's Great Big Green Idea competition recently and some absolutely superb ideas have come to the fore. To see who won, check out the latest news update here!
