Sam Stephen’s ‘Gig It To Groats’ Bicycle Tour 2010
In a previous cycle diary entry, we were thrilled to update you with Paul Heaton’s (Housemartins, Beautiful South) tour of the UK on his bicycle, a “sustainable touring” initative. Now, we are delighted to introduce another intrepid musician by the name of ‘Sat Nav’ Sam Stephens who cycled from Land’s End to John O’Groats in May/June 2010, playing acoustic gigs along the way.
Watch the Sat Nav Sam - Gig it to Groats 2010 Tour Documentary
This full length film, shot and edited by Sat Nav himself, shows the highs and lows of his life on the road. The tour was not just a great way to highlight the sustainable issues around touring (after all, cycling has barely any carbon impact!) but it promoted his own music. Sam also used this tour as a fundraising event for Water Aid.
While an amazing achievement in itself, for Sam this is just the start of something bigger. The ‘2010 Till When?’ Expedition will see Sam and his girlfriend Sarah “Thumper” Jones attempting to ride around the World. Currently in the pre-planning stages, it is estimated that it could take four years – for more information, please visit the official website from later this year (August 2010):http://www.2010tillwhen.com
