Edinburgh Fringe Show a Hit!

Added on 18th Aug 2010

Julie's Bicycle wishes to congratulate Leicester Comedy Festival's 'Comedy in the Dark' show on their success at the Edinburgh Fringe. The performance is part of a campaign by LCF to raise awareness of environmental issues through comedy.

The show, which takes place entirely in the dark, ran at the prestigious Gilded Balloon from 6-19th August and featured performers including Sarah Millican, Jon Richardson, Patrick Monahan, Rob Rouse and Shappi Khorsandi. The performance also attracted positive media coverage, with Time Out saying it "is destined to become one of the most talked about shows at the Fringe"!

Comedy in the Dark was first performed at Leicester's Belmont Hotel as part of The Big Switch Off programme, and was then performed as part of Leicester Comedy Festival 2010. The show, which features different acts each night, is raising awareness of The Comedy Wood, a real wood being planted as part of The National Forest. There are now plans to take the show to other festivals in the UK and abroad.

Leicester Comedy Festival Director Geoff Rowe say's "we're thrilled with the response we've had to Comedy in the Dark. It's a unique show and both audiences and acts have loved the experience. We'll present the show again as part of Leicester Comedy Festival 2011 and are now looking to take it to other festivals and events."

Comedians have really enjoyed performing with the lights off. Star of We Are Klang! and The Inbetweeners Greg Davies said Comedy in the Dark is "what is wonderful about the Fringe" and Rob Rouse said "I love it! It's a bit like doing stand up on the radio but with the constant thought in the back of your mind that you could drop your trousers at any point and no one would know!"

Leicester Comedy Festival 2011 runs from 4-20th February. Full details available on www.comedy-festival.co.uk
