Julie's Bicycle goes to Lovebox

The sun shone down upon Victoria Park last weekend, energising thousands of party-goers that had flocked to Lovebox for great acts including Roxy Music, Dizzee Rascal and Grace Jones. This three day festival is held every year in east London and consistently attracts some of the biggest names in music, entertaining the city with styles ranging from chart-topping pop to funk, electro, rock and hip-hop. However this event marked a difference to previous years, as Lovebox committed to provide the same weekend of noisy entertainment with 10% less greenhouse gas emissions.
Julie's Bicycle have been working with closely with Lovebox over the last few months, during which the organisers signed up to the 10:10 campaign and pledged to cut their emissions. Our Julie's Bicycle Industry Green programme allows Lovebox to compare the environmental impact of their 2009 festival against this years event, hopefully demonstrating that the energy-saving measures put in place have been successful.
As JB staff strolled around the park on Friday afternoon, some of these measures were immediately visible. Separate bins were clearly marked for general and recyclable waste, reducing the amount of rubbish ending up as landfill after the crowds go home. Catering trucks provided a range of local foods served in recyclable containers. And in the middle of the park the sunlight was beating down on an array of solar panels, providing lighting and sound to the Cuervo Street Fiesta stage as it blasted out a blend of funk and salsa.
Julie's Bicycle will continue working with Lovebox to analyse the environmental impact of last weeks brilliant event, and we support their pledge to reduce emissions yet further in 2011. For further information you can visit the Lovebox website, or email environment@loveboxlondon.com.
