Greening Theatres
Julie’s Bicycle is pleased to be expanding its remit to include theatre from 2010. We will be managing the national rollout of Greening Theatres, originally set up by the Mayor of London and incubated by Arcola Theatre.
Justine Simons, Head of Cultural Policy, Mayor of London comments:
"I am so delighted that the Mayor’s Green Theatre Plan is really starting to motor. The theatre sector has thrown its weight and enthusiasm behind this programme, due in no small part to our energetic friends at Arcola Theatre. It makes real sense to partner with Julie’s Bicycle for this next important phase - JB have a great deal of expertise working on very similar issues across the music industry, so there is much to be gained from sharing this expertise. Now that we have concrete plans for film, theatre and music, real progress is being made towards our ambitious target of reducing emissions in the capital by 60%.
"
Moira Sinclair, London Executive Director for Arts Council England comments:
"Real change has to be led by people, not policy, so Arts Council England is delighted to be supporting the Green Theatre partnership and Julie's Bicycle to develop their already impressive industry led response to climate change. There is a seriousness of approach here combined with a desire to achieve tangible results - given the challenge we all face, this feels the right way to move."
Ben Todd, Executive Director of Arcola Theatre comments:
"I am very excited about this development of Green Theatres. There has been a palpable shift in UK political priorities and policy over the past 18 months which gives the creative industries space and responsibility to deliver on sustainability. There has also been a great increase in activity around the world, which means that if the UK is to continue making a significant contribution to thinking and practice we need to rapidly raise our game."
