GDS design first dimmable LED light fitting: ArcSystem wins ABTT's Lighting Products of the Year
Since brought to industrial use in 1962, Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) have been growing in popularity for their many advantages over incandescent lights - lower energy consumption, longer lifetime and greater reliability. For theatre lighting, however, the lack of dimmable LED products that produce a warm enough colour has meant that many in the industry have been reluctant to replace their existing lighting stock. Until now.
Product manufacturer GDS has developed a new LED house-light system named ArcSystem, using a new concept that provides a low energy future proofing system for auditoria house lighting. It is an LED based, fully dimmable unit with a warm white tungsten colour output. It is designed to emulate a filament fitting in its dimming response, and is one of the first LED products to be dimmed to zero without snapping. Each unit is fitted with a wireless transciever for ontro communicatios, and when multiple units are installed they form a communications matrix, enabling stability and flexible control. ArcSystem allows installers and specifies the option to offer a solution for retro fit, without the need to run additional control cabling.
Perhaps the most important factor is the low energy element, given run time and maintenance costs early estimations suggests that ArcSystem will provide a return on investment within 36 months.
The ArcSystem was awarded the ABTT Lighting Product of the Year, accepted by Richard Cuthbert, director of Engineering for GDS at the annual ABTT Theatre Show.
The ABTT Theatre show is devoted to promoting the latest technologies for theatre and performance buildings as well as theatre productions.
